How to keep weave from tangling

Sep/17/2022

Hair extensions or braids are a great way to add length to your hair or try new hair colors and hairstyles. They offer several improvements to natural hair, from improved length, color and texture to reduced maintenance, better styling and increased protection. However, it's important to maintain the weaves to keep them looking good. You need to put in some effort to make them last longer. Those new to weaves may not realize the importance of maintenance and may end up with tangled hair. Since the weaves is made up of dead hair, it doesn't absorb natural oils from the scalp and can easily become tangled and damaged. Dealing with knots and tangles can be frustrating. Here, we look at different ways to prevent weave tangles, as well as some remedies on how to fix a tangled weave before too much damage is done.

How to avoid tangles?

Comb your weaves frequently

In order to maintain the beauty of the hair, brushing the hair is essential. This is a great way to get them out of tangles. Make sure to brush the fabric about 2 to 3 times a day, especially before washing or going to bed. Also, use the right tool when brushing your hair, a wide-toothed comb is recommended, starting from the ends and working upwards. This helps prevent extensions outages and also prevents tangling later. You should handle extensions gently to prevent damage to them.

Wash your hair and care for it regularly

The best tangle weaves therapy is to care for extensions like natural hair. This means washing your hair regularly to remove sweat, dirt and dust, as well as any other substances that have built up on your scalp. Wet hair slowly, then apply shampoo liberally. Do not massage or rub your hair. Use a wide-toothed comb or fingers to lightly comb through hair to remove any tangles, then wash down. Rinse shampoo thoroughly. Apply a moisturizing conditioner or mask. Use a wide-toothed comb or fingers to apply conditioner to hair. Put on a shower cap, wait at least 10 - 30 minutes, then rinse out the conditioner thoroughly.

However, you should avoid washing your hair too frequently - for example, every day. Doing so removes moisture and natural oils from the hair, which in turn causes the weaves to dry out -- making it prone to tangles.

Choose the right product

Not every hair care product is safe for your hair. Some products can dry out extensions and make them prone to knots. For example, products containing sulfates and parabens can strip nutrients from your hair. Make sure you always use shampoos and other products made specifically for extensions.

Try to find products that provide the weaves with the moisture it needs to stay smooth. Alcohol can also be dangerous to your hair extension. Avoid products that contain alcohol. When it comes to hair care, organic products are especially good.

Deep condition

Moisture is very important for weaves. Use a deep conditioner to get enough moisture. So, consider using a conditioner once a week. Wash your hair in a downward motion, applying the conditioner from top to bottom at a time. Rinse well and set. This is perfect for curly weaves. Hair has moisture, making it look smooth and fresh, while also making it less likely to tangle. A leave-in conditioner is especially good for your hair because it's easier to handle.

However, when using conditioner, you should be careful not to use too much product. Doing so can erode the moisture and natural oils on your scalp, which can damage your hair.

Avoid frequently use of heated tools

Although hair extensions are designed to facilitate styling, certain tools and methods can be detrimental. You should avoid hot tools that can rip moisture out of your hair. Consider drying weaves naturally.

Don't use hot styling tools too often. Heat is your hair's worst enemy. The more you use it, the shorter the lifespan of your hair. Use heat in moderation. Do not use high temperature. High temperatures can damage hair and permanently alter hair texture. Spray heat protectant on hair before using wand or enhancer. Use alcohol-free styling products.

Protect your hair when sleeping

While sleeping, the hair extensions rub against the pillowcase, creating friction that causes knots and tangles. First, you could start brushing your hair before going to bed. You could also tie it up or even braid it; you might also consider using satin pillowcases and headbands to avoid frizz. Never sleep with wet hair, as it may tangle while you sleep.
