How to wash a wig? – 8 Steps

1.Gently tease the wig to get rid of tangles and knots

First, use a wide-toothed brush to gently brush your hair and remove all tangles. Brush the wig gently from the roots until you see no more tangles and knots in the wig.

2. Rinse the wig with warm water

Rinse the wig from root to tip with warm water, avoiding soaking and rubbing the hair. It is not recommended to wash lace front wigs in hot water. Hot water can damage the wig by lifting the outer cuticle. Warm water will allow the shampoo and conditioner to penetrate evenly and clean your wig properly.

3. Apply shampoo on your wig

After wetting the wig with warm water, apply shampoo to the palm of your hand, then evenly apply it to the wig and massage gently. For longer wigs, use a wig holder to secure them when applying shampoo. In addition, for human hair wigs, you can use any shampoo you use to wash your natural hair. For synthetic wigs, it is recommended that you use a shampoo specifically designed for synthetic wigs. To clean the wig cap, use a circular motion when cleaning with shampoo.

4. Rinse the shampoo

After shampooing the wig for about 10 minutes, rinse it off with warm water. Rinse from the roots to the ends of the wig. Until there's no shampoo left on the wig. Then blot the excess water with a towel.

5. Condition the wig

After removing excess water, apply the conditioner to the wig, let it sit for a few minutes, and then rinse it off. Do not apply conditioner to the ends of your hair, as it may loosen the knots in the wig and make it fall off. Wait 3 to 5 minutes for the conditioner to saturate.

6. Rinse off the conditioner with cold water

Use cold water when rinsing the conditioner, as it will help lock in the moisture in the conditioner, thus adding shine to your wig. Rinse your hair thoroughly to remove residue, then squeeze any excess water out of the wig.

7. Rub the wig with a soft towel

Take your wig and put it on the towel. Press gently with the towel from the base to the end until the entire wig is drip-free. Don't squeeze or twist your wig too hard, which can cause frizz. Gently wipe with a towel.

8. Dry your wig

The perfect way is to hang the wig on a folding wig rack and let it air dry. However, if you are in a hurry, you can use a hair dryer to dry your wig. But please use a hair dryer at a low temperature. Too much heat can seriously damage your wig. Blow dry 80% and finally brush until it is smooth.
